Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates 100-bed district hospital in Hamren

GUWAHATI, Sept 28: In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in West Karbi Anglong, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated the 100-bed West Karbi Anglong District Hospital at Hamren.

Built at a cost of around Rs 30 crore under the National Health Mission, the three-storied hospital is spread over 62 bighas of land with a built-up area of 81,055 square feet.

The facility offers comprehensive medical services, including emergency care, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, radiology, ENT, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and physiotherapy.

It also houses operation theaters, laboratories, a pharmacy, ECG, X-ray, ICU, a blood bank, general wards for men and women, six private wards, two conference halls, and residential quarters for doctors and healthcare staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said he had laid the foundation of the hospital during his tenure as health minister and felt proud to dedicate it to the people as chief minister on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shasthi of Durga Puja.

He announced that a GNM Nursing School would soon be operational in Hamren to provide nursing education for local girls.

Classrooms have already been constructed within the hospital, and once the hostel is ready, the nursing institute will start functioning.

The chief minister further stated that a CT scan machine will be operational by December.

While a dialysis unit has already been installed at the Dongkamukam Community Health Centre, the government is ready to provide similar facilities at Hamren hospital upon public demand.

Efforts are also underway to start caesarean delivery services at the hospital.

Sarma congratulated the doctors and nurses on the inauguration and urged the medical fraternity at the hospital to dedicate themselves to patient care.

Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang; Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa; Karbi King Long Sing Ronghang; MLA Rupsing Teron; and several other dignitaries were present at the event.
