Guwahati, 07 Oct: Assam’s youth Tanuj Samaddar will participate in the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 15. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) selected Samaddar to join the event, which gathers global conservation experts, policymakers, and activists.
Held once every four years, the congress focuses on actionable solutions for biodiversity preservation and climate change mitigation under this year’s theme, “Power of Transformative Change.” It is seen as a key milestone in advancing the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the climate goals set under COP21 in Paris.

Samaddar, a resident of Rangia in Kamrup district, is an undergraduate at Delhi University and a recipient of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. He also serves on the IUCN’s Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP).
During the congress, Samaddar will engage in thematic sessions, explore country-specific pavilions, and interact with global policymakers and activists to highlight the increasing threat to Assam’s wetlands.
