HAFLONG, Oct 8: Dima Hasao police have seized a large consignment of contraband fertilizer from a truck at Kalachand, under Maibang police station in the district.
According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of October 5 when a truck bearing registration number WB-65-E-1581 was involved in a minor collision while standing by the roadside.

A quarrel ensued between the truck occupants and the other vehicle’s driver, prompting police intervention.
The truck, along with its driver and handyman, was brought to Maibang police station.
However, under the pretext of having a meal, both the driver and handyman fled, abandoning the vehicle.
Suspicious of the circumstances, police inspected the truck and discovered it was loaded with fertilizer, although the accompanying documents falsely stated it contained rice.
In total, authorities seized 666 bags weighing 29,970 kilograms, with an estimated market value of Rs. 14,98,500.
Maibang Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Vaibhav Rawat, said investigations are underway and legal action will be initiated against those responsible for the illegal consignment.
