GUWAHATI, Oct 10: In a fresh turn in the ongoing investigation into the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, two of his close associates, Bonkim Roy Medhi and Jayanta Kakati, on Friday clarified allegations linking Siddharth Sarma, Zubeen’s manager, to a ₹18.74-crore Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) work order issued under GB Construction.
Addressing the media, Medhi and Kakati categorically denied Sarma’s involvement in the project and asserted that the entire investment for the contract came directly from Zubeen Garg himself. “We don’t know why Siddharth Sarma’s name is being dragged into this. If anyone claims his involvement, they must show proof. We only knew him as Zubeen’s manager — like a brother — nothing beyond that,” they said.

The duo stated that they have submitted all relevant documents and statements to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the singer’s death and have also spoken to Garima Garg, Zubeen’s wife, during Laxmi Puja. They added that discussions on financial matters would be addressed only after the release of Garg’s final film, Roi Roi Binale.
“Our focus is solely on justice for Zubeen. The truth must come out — this is an extremely sensitive case. The investigation should not be diverted from its core purpose,” they said, urging authorities to stay committed to uncovering the real circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in Singapore on September 19.
Medhi and Kakati further emphasised that their only objective was to clarify what transpired between September 17 and 19, the period leading up to Garg’s death. “If anyone is found guilty, they must face the strictest punishment. We request the SIT to release its final report soon,” they said.
On the project’s internal roles, the two clarified that Jayanta Kakati handled billing responsibilities, while Bonkim Roy Medhi oversaw on-site operations. Both maintained that they had “no knowledge whatsoever” of any parallel activities involving Siddharth Sarma.
The clarification comes amid growing public interest in both the financial and personal aspects linked to Zubeen Garg’s death, as the CID and SIT continue their high-profile investigation.
