NAGAON, Oct 11: A CRPF jawan from Assam’s Kampur area in Nagaon district was killed in an IED blast in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa range on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Head Constable Mahendra Laskar of the 60th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Reports said the blast occurred around 11–12 pm while Laskar and his team were on patrol duty in the dense forests of the Chaibasa range.
Laskar, a resident of Kunwariati village under Kampur, died on the spot, while several of his colleagues sustained injuries.
News of his death has plunged his native village into mourning.
His family members, including his mother, wife, and children, were devastated upon receiving the news.
Family sources said Laskar had mentioned to his wife about a similar IED explosion in the area just a day before the fatal incident.
His mortal remains are expected to reach his native village on Sunday morning.
Local leaders, including Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami and Raha MLA Sashi Kanta Das, have condoled the death and paid tribute to the fallen jawan for his service to the nation.
