Guwahati, Oct 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case on 13 October against an architect of a private company, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of PWD Bongaigaon, and the Executive Engineer of PWD Bongaigaon in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide of Assistant Engineer Joshita Das. The case was registered following an order by the Government of Assam on 11 August and a notification from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India, dated 7 October, transferring the Bongaigaon Police Station Case No. 188/2025 to the CBI for investigation.
According to reports, the deceased officer, Joshita Das, was subjected to excessive and undue work pressure from her seniors, colleagues, and contractors related to a mini stadium project under the Public Works Department (PWD) in Bongaigaon. It has been alleged that Das was coerced and intimidated by the accused officials and contractor to prepare and approve project estimates and bills in an irregular manner, which reportedly caused her severe mental distress.
Faced with sustained pressure and threats, Das allegedly took the extreme step of ending her life. Following widespread concern and public demand for justice, the case was handed over to the CBI to ensure a fair and impartial investigation. The central agency has begun its probe into the circumstances leading to her death, with the investigation currently underway.
