Cachar , 14 Oct : The Cachar district administration has imposed a night-time movement ban along the Indo-Bangladesh border under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). District Magistrate Mridul Yadav issued the order citing concerns over extremist movements and unauthorised cross-border activities. The directive prohibits movement between sunset and sunrise within a one-kilometre belt of the border and restricts night-time travel along the Surma river and its banks. Boating and fishing are allowed only with prior permission from the Circle Officer of Katigorah, in coordination with the BSF and the District Magistrate.
The order further bans the transport of essential goods such as rice, sugar, kerosene, wheat, edible oil, and salt during the night within a five-kilometre radius of the district’s border areas. The Circle Officer of Katigorah may, however, grant special permissions for verified cases after consultation with supply officials and mandatory intimation to the District Magistrate and the BSF Commandant of the 170th Battalion, Dholcherra.
The prohibitory order, issued ex-parte in the interest of public safety, takes immediate effect and will remain valid for two months unless revoked earlier. It excludes State and Central Government officials on duty. District Magistrate Mridul Yadav stated that the restrictions are preventive measures to maintain order, safeguard the border, and prevent any disturbance to public peace or national security.
