SIVASAGAR, Oct 17: A sea of fans, students, teachers and cultural troupes gathered at the Boarding Field in Sivasagar on Friday to pay heartfelt tributes to iconic singer, composer, actor, producer and social activist Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away on September 19 in the sea near Singapore.
The emotionally charged event, supported by local MLA Akhil Gogoi, saw the crowd singing Zubeen’s timeless songs, creating a soulful atmosphere in the evening.

Earlier in the day, Sivasagar University Vice Chancellor Dr Mahadev Patgiri, Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, senior citizen Satradhikar Lakhikanta Mahanta and Zubeen’s uncle Manoj Kumar Borthakur lit earthen lamps before a large portrait of the late artist.
Speaking at the event, Akhil Gogoi praised Zubeen’s rebellious spirit and uncompromising stance, calling him a voice for change who admired revolutionary icons like Che Guevara. Manoj Borthakur recalled Zubeen’s message to youth—urging them to transform their surroundings through music, cinema, culture and good deeds.
The event also featured performances by various cultural troupes representing diverse communities and faiths, who offered prayer songs in memory of the beloved artist.
