JORHAT, Oct 19: As part of the State-wide agitation launched by the Asom Jatiyabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), the Jorhat district unit of the students’ body staged a hunger strike at Baruah Chariali here on Saturday, demanding justice for late singer Zubeen Garg.
During the protest, participants paid homage to the legendary artiste in front of his large portrait installed at the venue.
The protesters said that although a month had passed since Zubeen’s demise under mysterious circumstances in Singapore, people of Assam were still awaiting clarity on the cause of his death.
They asserted that the public would continue their struggle until the truth behind his death was revealed and justice was served.
“People will not rest until the actual facts leading to his death are brought to light,” they stated.
The AJYCP members also demanded that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigate the financial transactions of those arrested in connection with Zubeen’s death and take necessary legal action.
The protesters said that the sudden demise of the artiste, who had greatly enriched Assam’s cultural landscape and elevated its music scene, had left an irreparable void in the hearts of the people.
