CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to visit Barak Valley to unveil key projects, boost grassroots empowerment

GUWAHATI, Oct 22: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to embark on a two-day visit to the Barak Valley, covering Cachar and Sribhumi districts, on October 24 and 25, 2025.

The visit will include a series of official and public engagements aimed at accelerating the State Government’s development and welfare initiatives in southern Assam while strengthening its outreach at the grassroots level.

Sarma will begin his tour at RK Nagar in Sribhumi district, where he will attend a ceremonial cheque distribution programme at 11 AM under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) for the RK Nagar Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).

The event will underscore the Government’s continued efforts to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship, enabling thousands of beneficiaries to start new ventures and contribute to Assam’s economy.

Following the RK Nagar engagement, the chief minister will proceed to Silchar, where he will attend another MMUA cheque distribution programme for the Silchar LAC at 1 PM at the Police Parade Ground.

The event is expected to draw a large gathering of beneficiaries and community representatives, reflecting the Government’s commitment to empowering women, youth, small traders, and self-help groups through sustainable livelihood support.

At 4:30 PM, Sarma will visit the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the proposed 200-bedded Super Speciality Hospital.

The upcoming facility is expected to transform healthcare infrastructure in Barak Valley, providing advanced treatment and specialised services for people of southern Assam and adjoining states.

Later in the evening, at 5:15 PM, the chief minister will participate in a BJP Booth President and Shakti Kendra meeting for the Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency at the Grand Palace Hall, Silchar.

The interaction is expected to strengthen organisational coordination, enhance communication between leadership and local cadres, and reaffirm the party’s commitment to inclusive governance and public service.

On October 25 (Saturday), Sarma will inaugurate the newly constructed Binnakandi Mandal BJP Office at 10:00 AM and the Lakhipur Mandal BJP Office at 10:40 AM.

These inaugurations will further consolidate the party’s organisational base in rural Cachar, enhancing its connection with the people at the grassroots.

Later, at 11:45 AM, the chief minister will attend a cheque distribution programme under MMUA for the Lakhipur LAC at Laboc Field, Cachar, bringing another group of beneficiaries under the flagship self-employment initiative aimed at fostering economic independence among rural citizens.

Sarma is scheduled to return to Guwahati later in the afternoon on October 25.
