Tezpur, Oct 30:From tomorrow, the much-awaited Assamese film Roi Roi Binale, starring and produced by Zubeen Garg, will be released across all cinemas in Assam as well as in theatres outside the state. The film, which tells the story of one of Assam’s most beloved musical icons, has already witnessed an overwhelming response, with tickets sold out for several days from the morning to late-night shows.
However, the Tezpur Sadar Regional Students’ Union has expressed deep concern over the closure of the historic Jonaki Cinema Hall, which was built by Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala in 1937 to screen Joymoti, the first Assamese film.

The students lamented that despite the significance of Jonaki as Assam’s first cinema hall, Zubeen Garg’s Roi Roi Binale cannot be screened there due to its non-functional state. It is noteworthy that in 2019, the Cultural Affairs Department of the Assam Government had sanctioned Rs 65 lakh for the renovation of Jonaki Cinema Hall.
