DIBRUGARH, Oct 30: Veteran artist Syed Sadulla, a revered figure in Assamese music and culture, passed away on Thursday morning at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was 77.
The noted singer, lyricist, composer, and former radio announcer had been undergoing treatment for a severe blood-related disorder and was admitted to GMCH on Tuesday.

Born on February 1, 1948, in Dibrugarh district, Sadulla was widely known for his distinctive baritone voice.
He began his professional journey as the first English newsreader for All India Radio, Dibrugarh, and went on to lend his voice to numerous radio and television programmes.
He was also a key member of the popular musical band The Quivers.
Over the decades, Sadulla’s soulful renditions, heartfelt lyrics, and memorable compositions earned him lasting admiration across generations.
In recognition of his contributions to Assamese music, he was recently conferred the Achiever Music Award by the Sadin-Pratidin Group.
Medical authorities at GMCH confirmed that Sadulla had been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), accompanied by severe respiratory complications.
He was placed on ventilator support as his condition deteriorated.
His demise marks the end of an era in Assam’s musical landscape, leaving the state’s cultural fraternity and admirers in deep mourning.
Syed Sadulla’s rich legacy will continue to inspire and resonate through his vast body of work.
