GUWAHATI, Oct 31: With the growing popularity of online shopping across India, Flipkart has urged customers to remain alert against the increasing number of cyber frauds involving fake links, phishing calls, and malicious apps.

The company has advised users to be cautious while browsing or purchasing online to safeguard their data and privacy.

Cybercriminals are reportedly using sophisticated techniques to deceive unsuspecting users through scam calls, fraudulent offers, and counterfeit websites that imitate authentic platforms.

Flipkart has reiterated that it never asks customers for sensitive details such as OTPs, PINs, or CVV numbers, and has advised users to disconnect immediately if they receive such calls.

Users have also been warned not to fall for unrealistic offers or discounts that appear too good to be true. Flipkart has reminded shoppers to verify deals directly on the official app or website instead of clicking on links received via messages, emails, or social media posts.

Suspicious links and attachments, the company cautioned, can redirect users to phishing pages or install harmful software on their devices.

Flipkart has advised customers to shop only through verified platforms, double-check website URLs and app developer names, and watch out for signs of fake applications or portals such as spelling errors, unclear logos, broken navigation menus, or the absence of a security lock icon in the browser’s address bar.

To strengthen account security, users are encouraged to use strong, unique passwords containing numbers, symbols, and uppercase letters, and to change them regularly.

Any signs of unusual activity or unauthorized access should prompt users to reset passwords through official channels.

Flipkart has also recommended monitoring device performance for unusual behaviour, removing suspicious apps, clearing browsing data, and scanning for malware.

In serious cases, users should reboot devices in safe mode or perform a factory reset.

The company has called on customers to report fake messages, calls, or apps immediately to the Flipkart Help Center, noting that such reports help protect other shoppers as well.

Flipkart emphasised that cyber scams often exploit users’ urgency and trust. Staying informed, verifying sources, and reporting suspicious activities remain the best ways to prevent falling victim to online fraud.
