Guwahati, Nov 01: Assam is preparing to roll out projects worth nearly ₹1.78 lakh crore by December, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday, marking what he described as the next phase of the state’s industrial growth. The projects were part of the investment commitments made during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit held earlier this year.

At a foundation stone-laying ceremony in Guwahati, Sarma said three major ventures — the Medanta Super Speciality Hospital by Global Health Limited, the Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital by RJ Corp Healthcare, and a five-star Lemon Tree hotel — would anchor a new economic zone at Sarusajai. Together, these projects represent an investment of around ₹800 crore and will occupy nearly six acres of land.

Sarma said the government’s push to attract private players was beginning to show results. “A thermal power project worth ₹40,000 crore will begin soon, along with palm oil and storage projects valued at ₹30,000 crore,” he said, adding that the developments were expected to generate large-scale employment and drive regional growth.

The chief minister said the integrated complex of hospitals, hotels, and service apartments would help position Guwahati as a medical and business hub for the Northeast. State Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora, who attended the event, said the projects reflected Assam’s growing appeal to national investors.
