Tinsukia, Nov 05:Tinsukia police have launched an investigation after a class 7 student was allegedly sexually assaulted while returning home from school in the Bordubi area on Monday afternoon.
The incident reportedly took place after school hours, when the girl failed to return home following the end of classes at around 2.30 pm. Concerned family members began searching for her, and by around 5 pm, an e-rickshaw driver alerted them after finding the girl lying near a tea garden by the roadside in a semi-conscious state.
Police sources said the family rushed to the spot and found the child with visible injuries and torn clothing. She was immediately taken to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Initial statements to police suggest that three men may have been involved in the assault before abandoning her at the location. A police team reached the area soon after receiving information and began preliminary inquiries. “We are awaiting the medical report while efforts are on to trace the accused,” a police official said.
The incident has drawn public outrage across the district, with residents demanding swift justice and stronger safety measures for schoolchildren. The investigation is continuing as police work to identify and apprehend the suspects.
