Guwahati, Nov 05:Former Union Minister Rajen Gohain, once among the BJP’s most recognisable faces in Assam, has joined the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), marking a new phase in his political career. The joining took place at the PWD auditorium in Guwahati on Wednesday, where Gohain was accompanied by a group of loyal supporters.
AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and senior leaders welcomed the four-time Nagaon MP into the party fold, calling it a moment of regional resurgence.
Gohain’s switch comes less than a month after he resigned from the BJP on 9 October, expressing discontent with the party’s leadership and direction in the state. He had served as the Minister of State for Railways during the first Modi government and earlier led the BJP’s Assam unit.
His move ends a decades-long association with the BJP and places him firmly within a regional political framework that is expected to shape the discourse ahead of upcoming elections in Assam
