TEZPUR, Nov 5: The Sonitpur District Administration has expressed concern over the rising number of accidental drowning incidents at popular picnic and tourist spots near rivers and tributaries in the district.
District Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Ananda Kumar Das, has issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, directing strict enforcement of safety measures to prevent such mishaps.

The Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, has been directed to deploy police, river police, SDRF, and fire service teams for regular patrolling and random checks, while the DTO has been instructed to conduct enforcement drives near these locations.
Violators of the order will face legal action under relevant provisions.
