Guwahati, Nov 07 India’s semiconductor ambitions took a crucial step forward as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Tata Electronics’ upcoming Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon District, on Friday.
The facility, poised to become one of the country’s leading semiconductor manufacturing sites, forms a crucial part of India’s broader strategy to build a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem. Officials describe the project as central to the nation’s drive to strengthen technological infrastructure and reduce dependency on global supply chains.
The Morigaon plant is embedded in a network of government-supported initiatives designed to expand domestic chip production. Since the current government took office under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there has been a concerted push to encourage semiconductor and chip manufacturing as a pillar of India’s economic resilience.
Industry experts note that facilities like Morigaon are expected to generate employment, attract ancillary industries, and position India as a significant player in the global semiconductor sector.
