GUWAHATI, Nov 8: The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, felicitated three frontline railway staff for their exemplary vigilance, professionalism and prompt action that helped avert a potential disaster. Jitendra Kumar (Loco Pilot – Goods/APDJ), Sailendra Kumar Keshari (Sr ALP/APDJ) and Bholaram Das (Train Manager – Goods/APDJ) were honoured with a cash award and certificate in recognition of their alertness and dedication while on duty.
On October 23, 2025, at around 00:57 hrs, a goods train carrying sugar was passing between Kokrajhar and Salakati stations in the Bodoland Territorial Region when the crew sensed a sudden heavy jerk. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, they immediately stopped the train, alerted control authorities and discovered damage to the railway track caused by a suspected blast near OHE Mast No 228/1. Their swift action prevented further damage, ensured timely restoration of train operations and safeguarded both railway property and lives.

The damage was promptly repaired within a few hours through the coordinated efforts of frontline workers, engineers and security personnel who worked tirelessly in a war-footing mode. Their dedication and teamwork ensured the swift clearance of debris, replacement of damaged sleepers and rail tracks and thorough inspection and securing of the site, enabling the safe resumption of train operations.
NFR also acknowledged the devotion, promptness and teamwork of all frontline staff and workers who, under challenging circumstances, displayed unwavering commitment to operational safety. Their readiness to respond at a moment’s notice and mobilise resources allowed the rail network to return to normalcy with minimal disruption. This felicitation not only honours individual courage but underscores NFR’s commitment to vigilant railway operations, passenger safety and infrastructure resilience.
