Guwahati, Nov 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, November 10, rolled out a new welfare initiative aimed at easing the household burden of families under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The scheme will provide subsidised masur daal, sugar and salt through the state’s network of nearly 33,000 fair price shops.
The launch was marked by simultaneous meetings across Assam, where ministers, MLAs and local representatives joined beneficiaries to observe the rollout. The central event in Guwahati was streamed live, linking districts across the state and highlighting the government’s effort to strengthen its food security framework.
The Chief Minister called the scheme a “people-first step” aimed at offering relief amid rising household expenses.
The initiative forms part of Assam’s broader strategy to make the public distribution system more inclusive and efficient, with digital monitoring expected to prevent leakages and ensure timely delivery of goods.
