Tezpur, Nov 10:  The 10th day of every month has now taken on special significance for Assam Pradesh Congress president Gaurav Gogoi. The trend began after Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on September 10, claimed he would expose Gogoi’s alleged links with Pakistan—an assertion that never came true. Since then, Congress has chosen the 10th of every month to induct new members from the BJP, other parties, and different sections of society, turning the date into a symbol of challenge and unity.

Speaking at a joining programme held at the district Congress office in Tezpur, senior Congress leader Madhab Rajbanshi said that the Chief Minister’s claims had fallen flat. “Instead of being exposed, Gaurav Gogoi has turned the date into one of political strength by bringing new members into the Congress every month,” Rajbanshi stated. He added that although Gogoi hasn’t officially declared it, Congress now marks the 10th of every month as a ‘Day of Challenge’ across Assam.

On the alliance front, Rajbanshi mentioned that discussions within the party were ongoing but declined to share details. Commenting on the ongoing investigation into the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg, Rajbanshi, who is also a lawyer, questioned the unusual speed of the charge sheet submission. He further asked who exactly was leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), hinting that there might be procedural lapses in the probe.

Batadrava MLA Sibamoni Bora, who also attended the event, took a sharp dig at Chief Minister Sarma, calling him a person who “speaks without thought.” She accused the CM of politicising Zubeen Garg’s death. “People from across the world are demanding justice for Zubeen. Thousands visit his resting place out of love and respect. None of them are doing politics—but the Chief Minister and his party have made it political,” Bora said. She reaffirmed that Congress, like Zubeen’s countless admirers, stands firmly for justice for the late singer.

The joining ceremony, led by Sonitpur District Congress president Kartik Kurmi, saw several individuals from different backgrounds formally joining the Congress in Tezpur.
