Assam Man Found Murdered in Meghalaya’s Dawki Forest, Vehicle Hijacking Suspected

Guwahati, Nov 13: A man from Assam was found murdered in a forested area near Dawki in Meghalaya, with police suspecting that his vehicle was hijacked by miscreants before he was killed. The deceased has been identified as Tapan Dey, a resident of Basistha in Guwahati.

Dey had reportedly travelled from Guwahati to Meghalaya last Saturday. During the journey, a group of assailants allegedly hijacked his vehicle and later murdered him, leaving his body deep inside the forest. The shocking discovery was made late on Wednesday night.

Following the recovery, Meghalaya Police launched an investigation and are working to identify those involved in the crime. The motive behind the murder is yet to be confirmed, though vehicle theft is suspected.

Family members have been informed and are expected to receive Dey’s body today for the last rites in Guwahati. The case has raised concerns over safety along the Guwahati–Meghalaya route, with police assuring that strict action will be taken against the culprits.
