MANGALDAI, Nov 17: A new bilingual Assamese-English news portal, World Progressive News was launched on Sunday evening at Mangaldai Block Chowk to mark National Press Day. Padmashri awardee and renowned Ojapali exponent Oja Drona Bhuyan inaugurated the portal and highlighted the crucial role of truthful and credible journalism in society.
The initiative, led by young entrepreneur Siddharth Barua will operate under the World Progressive News Trust. The launch ceremony featured goodwill messages from several prominent personalities, including social worker Arun Kumar Barua, senior journalists Mayukh Goswami, Hemant Kumar Barua and Shravan Kumar Jha as well as noted writer Malay Barua.
Anchored by Mayuri Choudhury, the programme included a welcome address outlining nine core objectives of the newly launched portal. As part of the occasion, office-bearers of the World Progressive News Trust also visited and felicitated veteran journalist, retired Mangaldai College professor, former legislator and noted litterateur Dr Nagendra Nath Sharma at his residence on Saturday.
