Addressing the participants, Rajendar Perna stated that NABARD is observing Cooperative Week in alignment with the national agenda, guided by the theme Cooperatives, as vehicle for Atmanirbhar Bharat. He highlighted a number of initiatives of the Ministry of Cooperation aimed at realising the vision of ‘Sahkar-se-Samriddhi’, strengthening the cooperative movement, expanding its grassroots presence and transforming cooperatives into vibrant multi-business enterprises.

Emphasising the need for sustainable development of cooperatives in the district, Perna called for coordinated functioning between credit and non-credit cooperatives. He said credit cooperatives can significantly contribute to micro-credit delivery through group financing models. He advised Bholaguri Satra SSL to consider preparing an inclusive Family Credit Plan for all its members and support them through credit and related services. He also shared the Government of India’s targets of tripling the cooperative sector’s contribution to GDP by 2034, bringing 50 crore active members into the cooperative fold, increasing cooperative societies by 30 per cent and establishing at least one cooperative society in every village.

Apex Bank official Niranjan Ch Das informed attendees that the bank is willing to extend support to eligible non-credit cooperatives, similar to its assistance to women SHGs. The Chairman of Bholaguri Satra SSL requested NABARD to organise exposure visits for local youth and office-bearers of newly formed cooperatives to well-functioning cooperative institutions within and outside Assam.
