Cachar to host Assam-Mizoram Border Festival on Nov 24

GUWAHATI, Nov 21: The Cachar District Administration is preparing to host a vibrant, day-long Border Festival at Dholai on 24th November, aimed at celebrating harmony, culture, and sports between communities of Assam and Mizoram. A preparatory meeting was held at the Co-District office in Dholai on Thursday to finalise all logistical, cultural and security arrangements.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials from Mizoram, including H Vanlalbiakzauva, SDO (Civil), Vairengte and Lalnufela Chawngthu, MCS, SDO (Sadar), Mamit. Cachar officials were led by District Development Commissioner Norsing Bey, ACS, who emphasised seamless coordination between both states. Co-District Commissioner Dholai, Roktim Baruah, ACS, supervised on-ground planning. Other officials present included Neihat Haolai, ACS (Assistant Commissioner and Block Development Officer, Dholai-Narsingpur), Bonnykha Chetia, ACS, Circle Officer Sonai Maria Tanim, ACS and Deepa Das, ACS (Assistant Commissioner & In-Charge, DDIPR Barak Valley Zone).

On the festival day, the B N M P School field will host a friendly football match followed by a volleyball game between teams from Cachar and Mizoram, symbolising inter-state unity and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, the CDC Dholai office ground will feature a cultural programme from 11 AM to 2 PM, showcasing performances by troupes from Vairengte, Mamit and Cachar, highlighting the shared heritage and traditions of border communities.

Adding to the festivities, ASRLM will organise food stalls offering traditional cuisines from the region, giving visitors an authentic taste of local delicacies.

With a blend of sports, culture and community engagement, the Border Festival at Dholai aims to strengthen ties between Assam and Mizoram while celebrating the vibrant spirit of people residing along the border.
