KOKRAJHAR, Nov 21: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Friday shook the national capital, New Delhi, with a massive sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding full implementation of the BTR Peace Accord signed in 2020 between the Central Government, the State Government, and Bodo organisations, as well as the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

It is noteworthy that representatives from the United Bodo People’s Organisation (UBPO) and the former NDFB Welfare Association also participated in the ABSU-led sit-in demonstration in Delhi.

During the protest, ABSU President Dipen Boro stated that the historic BTR Peace Accord was signed with the promise of fulfilling the long-standing hopes and aspirations of the Bodo people.

However, even after five years of signing the accord, several key clauses remain unimplemented.

He expressed concern that despite more than 12 tripartite meetings between the Bodo organisations, the Central Government, and the State Government, and six rounds of discussions with the Union Home Minister, major issues such as: increasing the number of BTC Council seats to 60, settlement of cases of NDFB leaders and cadres, granting hill tribe status to Boro-Kacharis of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, direct release of central funds to BTR, and many other commitments have still not been addressed.

He urged that in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill must be passed to ensure full implementation of all clauses of the BTR Accord. Otherwise, ABSU warned from Delhi itself that they would launch a continuous democratic movement demanding complete implementation of the BTR Peace Accord.
