Cachar’s 3rd Unity March draws over 1,400 participants in Badarpur

GUWAHATI, Nov 23: The 3rd Unity March of Cachar, organised by the District Administration in collaboration with MY Bharat was held on Sunday at Badarpur Town, showcasing a vibrant display of patriotism and communal harmony. The Padayatra, which began at the historic Badarpur Fort and concluded at the Railway Institute, drew more than 1,400 participants from Kalain, Katigorah and Badarpur, marking one of the district’s most energetic public gatherings in recent years.

Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya attended the event as Chief Guest, accompanied by MY Bharat Deputy Director Mehbub Alam Laskar, Badarpur Municipality Chairperson Rubi Nag, Circle Officers Dr Robert Tulor (ACS) and Joykristina, along with senior leaders from political, academic and community spheres. Over 29 youth clubs, NGOs, SHG groups and students from various institutions took part, transforming the march into a spirited celebration of unity.

In his address, MP Suklabaidya paid a profound tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, describing him as “the iron backbone of India’s political unity.” He highlighted Patel’s leadership, grit and historic role in integrating 562 princely states, calling it one of the most remarkable administrative achievements in global history. He urged the youth of Cachar to uphold the values of unity, discipline and national commitment.

Katigorah Circle Officer Dr Robert Tulor (ACS) also spoke at the event, reflecting on Patel’s leadership legacy. Earlier, MY Bharat Deputy Director Mehbub Alam Laskar delivered the welcome address, commending the enthusiastic participation of citizens—especially the youth and emphasising the growing strength of community-driven initiatives in Cachar.

The programme concluded with a vibrant cultural showcase featuring folk dance, Manipuri and Khasia performances and Bengali Dhamail, symbolising the rich cultural harmony of the district. A vote of thanks was delivered by Prosenjit Bhattacharjee, acknowledging the efforts of all departments, youth groups and the District Administration in making the event a success.
