DIMAPUR, Nov 25: The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), in collaboration with the Dimapur district administration and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, Dimapur, observed the state-level International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women with the launching of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence at Dimapur town hall on Tuesday.
In her address, NSCW chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak said the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is a global campaign from November 25 to December 10 every year focuses on combating online harassment and other forms of violence that occur in digital spaces and in digital forms.
Konyak said this year’s theme of the campaign, “UNiTE to end digital violence against women and girls”, focuses on combating online harassment and other forms of violence that occur in digital space.
“The campaign is part of the broader ‘UNITE to end violence against women campaign’ and calls for all the stakeholders of the states and individuals to take action,” Konyak added.
She urged all UNiTE partners, the government, civil societies and the private sectors to come together, stand together and raise their voices and to participate in local activities in advocating for the survivors and educating others about the importance of ending violence against women and girls.
Addressing the programme, Dimapur DC Tinojongshi Chang said violence against women is not only a violation of human rights but also a deep wound in the soul of a society.
Stating that ending violence against women is not the responsibility of women alone, the DC urged everyone present to take a pledge today to create a safe home, a safe workplace, and a safe public space.
Supreme Court advocate Vridna Grover gave a PowerPoint presentation on various forms of violence against women and the steps to be taken against such acts.
During the programme, the DC and the NSCW members released posters to be pasted on the back of the autorickshaws in Dimapur town with a call to unite to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
