Educo Cultural and Literary Festival in Tezpur concludes

TEZPUR, Nov 28: The eight-day Educo Cultural and Literary Festival for Children, organised by the Educo School of Art and Music, concluded on Thursday with a Parents’ Conclave and the 110th edition of Golpokotha, the popular storytelling-and-music series by writer Atanu Bhattacharyya and singer Mitali Dey.

The festival, held from November 16, hosted an array of literary, musical and dance competitions showcasing the talents of children from the region.

At the Parents’ Conclave, Dhubri Medical College psychiatrist Dr Syamanta Das delivered the keynote address on “Technology, Child Mental Health and Parental Awareness”.

He raised concerns over the impact of prolonged exposure to digital devices on children and emphasised the need for informed and active parental involvement to support mental well-being.

Assistant Professor Ananya Banjyotsna of Tezpur University spoke on “Mechanisation in Students’ Lives and the Need for Music—A Different Perspective”, highlighting music’s growing importance in modern education and its potential for interdisciplinary study.

Paediatrician Dr Shyama Saikia and psychiatrist Dr Aparajita Baruah also addressed the gathering, offering guidance on nutrition, mobile phone regulation and mental health.

Parents participated in an interactive session, raising long-pending concerns that were addressed by the experts.

The concluding evening witnessed a large turnout for Golpokotha, with audiences arriving from Tezpur, Sootea, Nagaon, Biswanath Chariali and neighbouring areas, filling the open-air venue of the school.

During the programme, Bhattacharyya and Dey released Henguliya, a handwritten children’s magazine featuring stories, poems and travel narratives written by young participants.

The school also unveiled its first wall magazine, Pratyasha, released by Pradakshina Kapili, a Class IX student who was adjudged the festival’s best literary contestant.

The closing function included a cultural presentation by winners of competitions in singing, dance, piano, guitar and violin.

Guest artiste Ananya Banjyotsna performed two songs at the valedictory ceremony. Prizes were later distributed to the winners.

Festival founders Raktim Goswami and Lipika Goswami thanked parents and audiences for their support and announced plans to expand the festival further in 2026.
