Awards presented on Assam Divas at Nagsankar

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 2: An award and title presentation ceremony marking Assam Divas was organised on Tuesday at Nagsankar Natya Mancha by Agnigarh Natghar, a leading socio-cultural and literary organisation of the greater Nagsankar area. The day-long programme was held under the chairmanship of the organisation’s president, Lochan Bora.

The event began with the lighting of earthen lamps before the portraits of Chaolung Sukapha and noted singer Zubeen Garg by ZPC member Hitesh Barua and Madhya Nagsankar GP president Lakhi Kanta Bora. Eminent singer Manash Bhagawati inaugurated the session, followed by a Borgeet rendition by students of Agnigarh Natghar’s School of Creative Art.

The Kala Sindhu title was conferred on Dulu Gogoi, retired headmaster of Nagsankar High School in recognition of his contributions to education, art, culture and environmental conservation. The Yuva Udyami Prerona Bota was awarded to young entrepreneurs Rinku Ranjan Saikia of Pothali Pahar, Lakhimpur and Niraj Nishim Hazarika of Naduar. Each honour included a memento, citation, Japi, Gamosa and Cheleng.

The ceremony was jointly conducted by Pallab Hazarika and Sharat Mahanta. The awardees addressed the gathering, along with speakers including Pankaj Saikia of Satriya Sanskriti Chorcha aaru Gobesona Kendra Assam, Dipak Saikia organising secretary of Namghar Mahasabha Assam and Ratnagarbha Rameswari Hazarika, mother of Naduar MLA Padma Hazarika.

The programme was attended by eminent writer Bhuba Gogoi, Labanya Devi, Ghana Kanta Orang, Narayan Hazarika, Padmeswar Saikia, Deva Gogoi and Anjan Baskota among others. A vote of thanks was offered by Sharat Kumar Bora, secretary of Agnigarh Natghar.

The event concluded with cultural performances by students of Agnigarh Sanskritik Prashikshan Kendra, the creative arts school run by Agnigarh Natghar under the guidance of principal Nijumani Gohain.
