SIVASAGAR, Dec 3: The 10th Sivasagar Book Fair 2025 commenced on Monday evening at the Boarding Field, offering a vibrant platform for book lovers, readers and sellers to celebrate literature. Noted bureaucrat-turned-litterateur and former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Kula Saikia, inaugurated the fair and lauded its role in fostering a culture of reading. He expressed hope that educational institutions across Assam would create similar environments within their campuses.
Jayanta Baruah, editor of Asomiya Pratidin and publisher of the Assamese-English dictionary Hemkosh, was honoured with the “Khoj Sivasagar Gaurov Award 2025” during the inaugural function. Baruah, along with organisers from the socio-cultural group Khoj, formally inaugurated the 11-day fair. The event was presided over by Samiran Phukan, General Secretary of AASU.
On the occasion of Asom Divas, the statue of King Sukapha was garlanded, and Dr Raktim Ranjan Saikia of JB University delivered a lecture on “Mane Lekha Buranji.” The Zubeen Garg Memorial Cultural Programme was also inaugurated, featuring a song composed by Ghanashyam Dutta in memory of Zubeen Garg, released by cultural worker Partha Pratim Buragohain.
The fair continues to showcase Assam’s rich literary and cultural heritage, attracting readers, writers and enthusiasts from across the region.
