GUWAHATI, Dec 7: The 54th edition of the ITC Sangeet Sammelan, organised by the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC-SRA) from December 5 to 7, concluded in Kolkata to widespread acclaim.
Held on the Academy’s scenic lawns, the annual festival once again drew connoisseurs, students and classical music enthusiasts from across the country, reaffirming ITC-SRA’s pivotal role in nurturing India’s musical heritage for nearly five decades.
The three-day event brought together an impressive roster of legendary artistes, Gurus, accompanists and the Academy’s Scholars, offering listeners a rich blend of tradition and artistic excellence.

A special highlight this year was the conferring of the prestigious ITC Sangeet Samman, the Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, on eminent vocalist Raween Sultana for her outstanding contribution to Hindustani classical music.
The Sammelan featured memorable performances by noted vocalists Parween Sultana, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ulhas Kashalkar, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Subhra Guha, Uday Bhawalkar and Carnatic duo Ranjani & Gayatri.
Instrumental renditions by sitarist Kalyan Majumdar, flautist Pranjal Ghatak and a mridang sankeertan led by Suresh Talwalkar added further depth to the festival.
A dynamic percussion showcase by Nayan Ghosh and Ishaan Ghosh, along with the night-long musical immersion on December 6, emerged as standout moments.
Commenting on the success of the Sammelan, ITC-SRA Executive Director and Trustee Saradindu Dutta said the festival epitomises continuity of knowledge and artistic discipline.
“The 2025 edition once again demonstrated the depth of India’s classical music tradition and the Academy’s unwavering commitment to nurturing exceptional talent. It is our privilege to honour artistes who have shaped the art form and to present the next generation of virtuosos on our stage,” he stated.
Established in 1977, ITC-SRA is regarded as one of India’s foremost institutions dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Hindustani classical music.
With its residential Gurukul system and fully funded scholarships, the Academy continues to mentor outstanding young musicians under the guidance of renowned Gurus.
As the institution approaches its 50-year milestone in 2027, it remains focused on strengthening India’s cultural legacy through research, education, performances and national outreach initiatives.
