Guwahati, 08 Nov: Assam moved a set of infrastructure, education and defence proposals on Sunday as the state Cabinet met at Lok Sewa Bhawan, Dispur, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The meeting outlined how land, logistics policy and institutional projects will be shaped over the next phase of development.
The Cabinet cleared the transfer of 3,000 bighas at the Doloo Tea Estate in Silchar to the Airports Authority of India. The clearance positions the state for Union Cabinet approval required to set up a greenfield airport in Silchar.
Land allotment for 1,200 families under Mission Basundhara received approval, marking another round of record updates and resettlement under the ongoing land-related programme.
The Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025 was passed with the stated aim of turning the state into a logistics centre for the region.
A joint project between the Assam Government and Dassault Systems India Pvt. Ltd. was also cleared for Assam Engineering College. The facility will span 5,000 sq ft at a cost of ₹243 crore. The state will put in ₹43 crore and Dassault Systems will invest ₹200 crore. The project will run courses in aerospace and defence, automotive and electric vehicles.
The Cabinet approved compensation for 884 families affected during land acquisition for the four-lane National Highway project in Dima Hasao.
A second Sainik School for Assam was approved for Longvaku in Karbi Anglong. The project cost is ₹335 crore, with 80% funded by the Ministry of Defence and the remaining share taken up by the state.
The Cabinet also mandated the inclusion of Assam’s history and geography as compulsory subjects for Classes VI, VII and VIII. The decision follows recommendations from the High-Level Committee headed by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
