MARGHERITA, Dec 8: A cancer screening and free health check-up camp was held on Monday at the Margherita Tea Estate Hospital under the Margherita Co-District, providing essential medical services to tea garden workers and local residents.
The camp was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Margherita Sub-District Branch, in association with Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Limited, Digboi, and supported by the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Tinsukia unit, and The Hans Foundation.
Inaugurating the programme, Pabitra Borgohain, secretary of the Red Cross Sub-District Branch, highlighted the organisation’s continued efforts to conduct health camps across tea estates in Margherita and its commitment to humanitarian service.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Margherita Tea Estate manager Bhaskar Paul, assistant manager Bhanu Pratap Singh Rathod, Sibasish Dey, Dr Abhijit Borah of Namdang Tea Estate, Dr Mamta Upadhyay from Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Charles from The Hans Foundation, along with technicians and other team members.
Screenings were conducted for breast, oral and cervical cancers, in addition to tests and treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, anaemia and other ailments.
Free medicines were also distributed to patients.
As part of the humanitarian outreach, the Red Cross Society distributed blankets, mosquito nets and tarpaulins to cancer patients attending the camp.
