KOKRAJHAR, Dec 12: NTPC Bongaigaon, Salakati has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the implementation of a Mobile Science Lab Project across 60 government schools in the districts of Bongaigaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar, covering 20 schools in each district, under its Corporate Strategic CSR framework with a total CSR outlay of Rs 57.88 lakh.
The MoA was signed between Riju Dutta Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal and Amit Kumar Asthana Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon in the presence of Arnab Maitra Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, Sanjiv Barman Joint Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal, Sanjiv Bist Coordinator and Surendra Talkelkar, representative of the organisation. Representatives from the HR and CSR wings of NTPC Bongaigaon were also present. The project will be implemented by Seva Bharati Purbanchal, a CSR-registered organisation with experience in education-focused interventions across the North-East.

The Mobile Science Lab Project aims to strengthen science education through hands-on, activity-based learning, particularly in schools located in remote and underserved areas. Fully equipped mobile laboratory vans fitted with scientific instruments, demonstration models and digital teaching aids will take experiential learning directly to school campuses. The initiative will provide students with practical exposure to concepts in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and renewable energy, fostering curiosity and scientific temper among young learners.
Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Maitra Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, said the initiative reflects NTPC’s long-term commitment to building a robust education ecosystem in its operational areas. He noted that by taking science learning beyond textbooks and classrooms, the project seeks to encourage scientific thinking, spark curiosity and nurture interest in STEM disciplines, contributing to the development of future-ready human capital in the region.
Each mobile science lab will be equipped with microscopes, telescopes, solar energy kits, optics and rocket models, along with laptops, projectors and other learning tools. The project also includes engagement of trained lab instructors and support staff, preparation of IEC materials and capacity-building measures to ensure effective outreach and sustained impact.
The project will be implemented over a one-year period with structured monitoring, periodic reporting and submission of utilisation certificates in line with CSR norms. NTPC Bongaigaon will undertake regular reviews and site visits to ensure transparency, accountability and timely achievement of project outcomes.
Through this initiative, NTPC Bongaigaon reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, future-oriented education and community development, aligned with national priorities of promoting scientific temper and innovation.
