Guwahati, Nov 20:Guwahati police outlined traffic arrangements and safety protocols ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on Saturday, urging citizens to cooperate to ensure smooth movement and security.
Addressing a press briefing at Azara, the Commissioner of Guwahati Metropolitan Police and the Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police said no major road closures have been planned for the Prime Minister’s visit. However, commuters have been advised to avoid congestion-prone areas such as Panbazar and Fancy Bazaar to prevent traffic bottlenecks.
As part of the traffic management plan, the entry of heavy vehicles into the city will be restricted during the Prime Minister’s programme. Authorities have also cautioned commuters travelling towards the River Front, Lokhra and Boragaon areas to use alternative routes.
A large turnout is expected at the airport inauguration event, with officials estimating a crowd of nearly 1.2 lakh people. In view of this, air travellers have been advised to reach the airport well in advance to avoid delays caused by crowd movement and traffic diversions.
Police have issued specific instructions for those attending the inauguration programme. Participants have been asked to carry minimal belongings, limited to small water bottles and light bags, as drinking water arrangements will be available at the venue. Security checks are expected to be strict.
Parking arrangements have also been finalised. Vehicles approaching from the Garal side will be required to park at the second rotary point, while vehicles coming from the old terminal side will be allowed to park at SOS Village, starting two hours before the event. Only vehicles with valid official passes will be permitted to enter restricted zones near the venue.
