GUWAHATI: In a landmark development for the North Eastern Region, CS Bishal Harlalka has been elected Chairman of the Eastern India Regional Council (EIRC) of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, becoming the first professional from the Northeast to hold the post.
Harlalka, a practising Company Secretary from Guwahati, Assam, has scripted history as no professional from the North Eastern states has earlier been elected to this prestigious position in the institute’s history.
The EIRC has jurisdiction over West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya and Sikkim, representing a large and diverse professional membership across eastern and north-eastern India.
A law graduate and widely respected for his professional competence and leadership, Harlalka completed his graduation in 2008 from Bongaigaon College in Assam.
He has been closely associated with the ICSI for several years and has served in various leadership roles.
Notably, he was Chairman of the Guwahati Chapter of the EIRC in 2020, during which he led multiple professional, academic and capacity-building initiatives for members and students.
His election is being seen as a significant recognition of the growing contribution and leadership of professionals from the North Eastern Region at the national level.
Members and stakeholders have expressed confidence that under his leadership, the EIRC will further strengthen professional standards, enhance member engagement and promote inclusive and balanced growth across the region.
