TEZPUR, Jan 3: Tezpur welcomed the New Year with the annual ‘Natokor Din (Day of Theatre)’, organised by J B Productions at Mehboob Studio. The day-long event brought together theatre activists, artistes and musicians, featuring theatre dialogues, poetry, music and reflective discussions on dramaturgy.
The programme was inaugurated with lamp lighting by Dr Gopendra Mohan Das, Bankim Sarma, Mahendra Nath Keot, veteran vocalist Sachchidananda Bora and writer Dr Bhupen Saikia. Dr Jahanara Begum, national award-winning actress and secretary of J B Productions, highlighted the organisation’s efforts since 2009 to nurture a healthy theatre culture and engage the younger generation.
The event paid tribute to singer Zubeen Garg, included dialogues from classic plays, solo performances based on stories by Alakananda Kakoti and Lakshminath Bezbaroa, poetry recitation and flute renditions. It concluded with the short play ‘Shortcut’ by Gamocha Theatre Group.
J B Productions also announced plans to stage three new plays in 2026, including ‘Bandini Vaidehi’, Tagore’s ‘Malanch’ and a stage adaptation of ‘Na Hanyate’.
