Weights and measures awareness week observed in Nagaon

NAGAON, Jan 3: The All-India Weights and Measures Awareness Week was observed in Nagaon district by the Legal Metrology Department from December 28 to January 3, with a series of programmes aimed at educating consumers and traders about accurate measurement practices.

District Development Commissioner Debajani Choudhury, who attended one of the awareness programmes, emphasised the need for consumers to remain vigilant while buying or selling goods to avoid being cheated. She urged consumers to check whether weights and measures instruments, including weights, scales, litres, metres and electronic scales were properly verified and stamped by the Legal Metrology Department.

The awareness programme was organised by Assistant Controller Sontara Das, along with Inspectors Rintu Choudhury, Aditi Dutta and Nilamoni Kumar and Publicity Organiser Jiyaur Rahman. Others associated with the programme included Praharjit Das, Akabar Ali, Nijamuddin Ahmed, Babita Deka, Mahibur Rahman, Utpal Kro, Omar Ali and Rinki Saikia.

As part of the observance, publicity campaigns were conducted through banners, posters and miking across weekly and bi-weekly markets, shops, daily markets, business establishments, educational institutions and among various categories of consumers in different parts of the district.

The awareness week aimed to sensitise consumers about the importance of accurate weights and measures and to highlight the necessity of checking verification and stamping of measuring instruments by the Legal Metrology Department.
