Silver jubilee celebration of Kolong Kola Kendra, Puranigudam concludes

NAGAON, Jan 4: The two-day silver jubilee celebration of Kolong Kola Kendra, a pioneer cultural organisation in Nagaon district, concluded successfully on Friday last. The inaugural function began with the hoisting of the flag by Krishna Goswami, president of the Organising Committee, in the presence of dignitaries, including Girindra Kumar Baruah, Pulin Hazarika, Dr Nripen Chandra Das and others.

The event featured various cultural programmes, including a painting exhibition, a workshop on traditional arts and a discussion on “Loka Kola: Past and Present with special reference to Assam.”

Noted artist and critic of art and other forms, Dr Mousumi Kandali attended the event and emphasised the importance of preserving traditional arts and culture, stating, “Loka Kola is the foundation of our culture and modern art is the sky. We need both.”

The event also saw the release of a commemorative volume, “Rupowali Sanphura,” edited by Dr Bikash Kumar Hazarika.

The celebration concluded with a cultural evening featuring traditional music and dance performances, including a rare Nagaonian Ojapali performance by women, marking a first in Nagaon.

The event was attended by prominent artists, writers and cultural enthusiasts, who praised Kolong Kola Kendra’s efforts in promoting traditional arts and culture.
