GUWAHATI, Jan 7: A three-day regional workshop (7–9 January, 2026) on “NEP 2020 and Higher Education Leaders: Technology as an Enabler” commenced on Wednesday at the City Campus of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), Khanapara. The programme is being jointly organised by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi and KKHSOU.
The workshop aims to strengthen leadership capacities in higher education and facilitate effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a special focus on the integration of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in academic and administrative processes. Over 50 participants from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya are attending the programme, representing universities and colleges from across the North Eastern Region.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof Rajendra Prasad Das, Vice-Chancellor, KKHSOU; Prof Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor, NIEPA and Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice-Chancellor, Cotton University, as the Chief Guest. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Pranab Saikia, Professor & Dean, Study Centre (i/c) and Nodal Person of the workshop.
Renowned academicians from NIEPA, including Prof Kumar Suresh, Prof Pradeep Kumar Misra and Prof K Srinivas, are serving as resource persons.
The first technical session of the day was conducted by Prof Kumar Suresh, Director, CPRHE, NIEPA, on “Leadership Roles in NEP 2020 Implementation.” He elaborated on leadership attributes essential for institutional transformation and highlighted key reform areas such as multidisciplinary education, structural reforms, Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) targets and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The session concluded with an engaging interaction with participants.
The second and third technical sessions were led by Prof K Srinivas, ICT & Project Management Unit, NIEPA, New Delhi and Programme Coordinator of the workshop, on “NEP 2020 and Technology Integration in Higher Education.” He analysed the policy’s key provisions on technology integration in teaching, learning, assessment, and governance.
The programme is being jointly coordinated by Dr Indrani Kalita and Dr Sanjib Borah of KKHSOU.
