37 Assam youth meet Governor ahead of Viksit Bharat Dialogue 2026

GUWAHATI, Jan 7: A delegation of 37 young leaders from Assam, selected under the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, called on Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan here on Wednesday evening.

The delegation will represent Assam at the national-level Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, to be held as part of the National Youth Festival at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from January 9 to 12, 2026.

Interacting with the young leaders, the Governor congratulated them on being selected for the prestigious national initiative launched by Narendra Modi and described their selection as a significant personal and professional milestone.

He said the programme would offer them a rare platform to share ideas and experiences at the national level and to draw inspiration from the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed India.

Governor Acharya observed that the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue seeks to connect the country’s youth with the larger national vision of a developed India, adding that the strength, creativity and leadership potential of young people form the backbone of nation-building.

He noted that India is currently witnessing a transformative phase marked by rapid digital advancement, growth of startups, expansion of infrastructure, inclusive welfare initiatives and a stronger global presence, all powered by youth energy.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda, the Governor said the future of India lies in the hands of its youth and urged the young leaders to step beyond their comfort zones, take calculated risks and pursue ambitious goals, as emphasised by the Prime Minister.

He encouraged them to visualise the India they wish to see in 2047 and to clearly define their role in shaping that future.

Highlighting the importance of Assam and the Northeast in national development, the Governor said the region is emerging as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, driven by improved connectivity and growing opportunities in trade, tourism, innovation and entrepreneurship.

He added that Assam’s progress in education, skill development, healthcare and the startup ecosystem is motivating young people to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Expressing confidence in the delegation, Governor Acharya said that ideas rooted in local realities and guided by strong values and ethics have the potential to address national challenges and contribute to building a strong, self-reliant, inclusive and developed India.

He wished the young leaders success at the dialogue and urged them to participate with enthusiasm, return with fresh ideas and work with renewed commitment for the nation.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Ankur Bharali, along with several other dignitaries, were present on the occasion.
