Road rage incident leaves minibus driver critically injured in Jorhat

JORHAT, Jan 8: In a shocking incident of road rage, the driver of a public van (Magic) allegedly attacked the driver of a minibus (Traveller) with a machete, grievously injuring him on the head on NH-715 under Pulibor police station in Jorhat on Thursday.

The accused van driver has been identified as Nayanjyoti Saikia.

He was picked up from his residence at Potiagaon under the Bhogdoi police outpost by outpost in-charge Akash Gogoi and later handed over to Pulibor Police Station.

The injured Traveller driver was immediately rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital with severe head injuries and profuse bleeding.

The Traveller bus was carrying passengers from Kohima in Nagaland to Mon district of the same state via Jorhat.

Officer-in-charge of Pulibor police station Nitul Saikia said the accused claimed he lost his temper as the Traveller driver allegedly did not give way despite repeated honking.

Acting in a fit of rage, he allegedly assaulted the driver with a machete.

Following the attack, passengers of the Traveller bus—most of whom are residents of Nagaland—were left stranded on the roadside for a considerable time, causing panic and distress.

Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation into the incident is underway.
