Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya visits Morigaon, engages with farmers, artisans and students

Day-long tour highlights government schemes, education and local development initiatives

MORIGAON, Jan 8: Governor of Assam, Laxman Prasad Acharya, visited Morigaon district on Thursday, engaging with farmers, artisans, students and beneficiaries of various government schemes through a series of programmes at the Agricultural Science Centre, Jhargaon and other locations.

The Governor visited the Amrit Lake Project and an exhibition showcasing locally produced goods, organic crops, handicrafts and textiles. He tasted groundnuts produced by the Morigaon Agriculture Department and interacted with beneficiaries of schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and Jal Jeevan Abhiyan. Emphasising the importance of education, he urged parents to guide their children and encouraged natural, disciplined lifestyles. Under the Nikshay Mitra programme, he also donated nutritious food packages to tuberculosis patients.

Governor Acharya conducted a review meeting with the district administration, receiving updates on Panchayati Raj, rural development, health missions and cleanliness initiatives. He also visited a fish production center at Nijrapar, Kumai Regional Secondary School and the Handicraft Center at Jhargaon, interacting with students and artisans. At the school, he encouraged students to develop a reading habit, increase self-confidence and build successful careers. He also inaugurated a cycle distribution programme, handing over bicycles to three students and participated in the PM Poshan midday meal programme.

The Governor visited the Tata Semiconductor Project, met eminent athlete Ashtipar and practised yoga at Amrit Sarovar. He was accompanied by Minister Piyush Hazarika, District Commissioner Anamika Tewari, ADCs, SP Prakash Sonwal, CEO of Zila Parishad Anant Kumar Gogoi and heads of various departments, who presented progress reports and ongoing initiatives in Morigaon district.
