Morigaon, Jan 09: Morigaon witnessed a burst of colour and cultural fervour on Friday as the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), Morigaon, in collaboration with the district administration, commenced a three-day Asomi Bhogali Mela at the Morigaon Bihutoli ground. The fair will conclude on January 11, 2026.
The mela was inaugurated by Morigaon District Commissioner Anamika Tewari in the presence of Morigaon Zila Parishad CEO Ananta Kumar Gogoi, Deputy CEO Abhijit Chakrabarty, District Information and Public Relations Officer Pompy Devi, District Veterinary Officer Dr Nilutpal Kakati, ASRLM District Project Manager Samir Choudhary, along with BPMs, BCs and other ASRLM officials.
A total of 30 self-help group outlets from different parts of the district are participating in the mela. The stalls feature ethnic dresses representing various castes and tribes, traditional Assamese delicacies such as pitha and laru, and handcrafted decorative items. Self-help groups from five blocks—Bhurbandha, Kapili, Mayong, Laharighat and Bhuragaon—are showcasing their products.
The mela has received an encouraging public response and aims to promote rural livelihoods while celebrating Assamese tradition. The three-day programme also includes traditional games and cultural activities, with special cultural performances scheduled on January 11, the concluding day of the fair.
