DIBRUGARH, Jan 11: Literature, often described as the life-blood of a nation, was celebrated at the launch of the poetry book ‘In the Language of Feathers’ by Pragya Sadhana Neog, a first-semester graduate student of the English Department, Tezpur University and a resident of Chiring Chapari, Dibrugarh.
The book launch, held at DHSK College (Autonomous), was inaugurated by Principal Dr S K Saikia, who emphasised that literature preserves a nation’s language, culture and history. “Many civilizations have disappeared because they failed to preserve written or oral literature,” he said, adding that literature forms the roots of a nation and ensures its survival.
Dr Saikia cited world-renowned poets like Rabindranath Tagore, Laxminath Bezbarua, John Keats, Alexander Pope and Lord Byron, highlighting how literary passion often begins in student life. He encouraged young writers to pursue poetry from an early age, noting that a strong literary foundation can lead to global recognition.
The program was attended by Dr Madhumita Purkayastha, Head of the English Department, who appreciated the growing literary activity among students. Prominent writer Gaurika Baruah Ahmed described Pragya Sadhana as a “voice of the new generation,” while Sunil Rajkonwar, vice-president of Jyoti Chitraban, praised the college for fostering an atmosphere of literature and culture.
The event was moderated by Romi Chakraborty, with noted writer Basbi Hazarika Bhattacharya speaking on the societal role of books and literature. Dr Partha Ganguli, vice-principal of DHSK College, lauded Pragya Sadhana’s poems and encouraged her to continue her literary journey.
