KHERONI, Jan 16: In a move aimed at reinforcing communal harmony and regional solidarity, former ULFA leader Jiten Dutta, along with a large delegation of former members from Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Nagaon, visited Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong on Friday to assess the situation following recent tensions in the area.
The delegation visited the residence of youth leader Litsong Rongphar, where Dutta issued a strong message against any forces attempting to disrupt the indigenous fabric of the region.

He said former ULFA members stand firmly with the Karbi community and would continue to support them in the future.
“If a mass movement is required for the protection, justice or resolution of any issues faced by the Karbi people, former ULFA members will be at the forefront,” Dutta said while addressing those present.
Emphasising the shared identity of Assam’s diverse communities, Dutta said the Assamese identity is incomplete without its indigenous tribes.
He noted that the Assamese people cannot exist by excluding communities such as the Bodo, Garo, Tiwa, Karbi and Dimasa, and called for unity among indigenous groups to ensure they are not treated as second- or third-class citizens in their own land.
The meeting drew participation from various ethnic and social organisations, including Karbi and Tiwa student bodies, Assamese linguistic and youth groups, as well as local elders and residents.
The visit is being viewed as an important step towards building bridges between the Brahmaputra Valley and the Karbi Anglong hills, sending a message of solidarity and resistance against communal discord.
