Garo Catholic Sobha concludes peacefully at Jalpara

DONGKAMUKAM, Jan 18: The 45th edition of the Garo Catholic Sobha under Satgaon Parish, held from January 16 to 19, 2026 at Jalpara (B) village, about four kilometres from Dongkamukam in West Karbi Anglong district, concluded peacefully.

On the concluding day, Bishop of Diphu, Most Rev Paul Mattekat, attended the programme as the chief guest and celebrated the Holy Mass in front of over five thousand faithful.

In his sermon, the Bishop urged the faithful to focus on hope, peace, charity and prayer and to become beacons of Christ’s light. He called upon believers to build bridges, listen daily to God, pray with their hearts and act with love and generosity, especially during the present challenging times. He further appealed to the faithful to become stronger witnesses in spreading the message of Christ and to shed indifference towards suffering while fighting evil.

During the Holy Mass, Fr Abraham Kanattu, Parish Priest of Sojong, Fr Albert Thyrniang, Parish Priest of Satgaon, Assistant Parish Priests Fr Charles Sangma and Fr Daniel Sangma, along with Rev Sister Mary Hasda, Sister Silsila Marak, Sister Sonia Sangma, Sister Christina Sangma and many other Sisters were present.

Earlier, the annual Sobha was inaugurated on Friday at 11 AM by Fr Abraham Kanattu, Parish Priest of Sojong. This was followed by a sermon delivered by Fr Chishti, Parish Priest of Silchang Parish near Jagiroad.
