KOKRAJHAR, Jan 18: The Indian Railways has started the operation of two state-of-the-art trains named Amrit Bharat Express from Sunday for the people of Assam and the North-East as a whole.
Citizens from various sections of society in Kokrajhar town, the headquarters of BTC, have welcomed this initiative of the Railways.
The Kamakhya–Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express, which was formally inaugurated on Sunday from Kamakhya Junction to Rohtak Junction in Haryana, was also welcomed at Kokrajhar Railway Station.
The programme was attended by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, Kokrajhar MLA Lawrence Islary, members of the Kokrajhar Railway Station Rail Stoppage Demand Committee, along with officials of the Railways and the district administration.
MPs Joyanta Basumatary and Rwngwra Narzary have demanded a halt for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express at Kokrajhar station.
Apart from the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, the two MPs stated that discussions have been held with the Railway Minister and senior railway officials to make arrangements for stoppages of several up and down trains connecting different parts of the country at Kokrajhar station.
