Guwahati, Jan 24: Extensive preparations are underway to mark the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Sonitpur district, in line with nationwide observances. The district administration is organising the central event at Nehru Maidan, Tezpur.
On Friday, a full-dress rehearsal of the ceremonial march-past was held at the venue. As many as 17 contingents took part, including personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Assam Police and Assam Home Guards, the SSB Tezpur Frontier Band, NCC units from Tezpur University, students from Darrang College and Tezpur College, government higher secondary schools, along with Scouts and Guides from various schools.

The rehearsal was inspected in the afternoon by Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Ankur Das and Additional Superintendent of Police Mousumi Kalita, who reviewed the overall preparedness.
Meanwhile, Republic Day programmes will also be held at the sub-divisional level in Dhekiajuli, Borchala, Rangapara and Naduar, ensuring district-wide participation in the national celebration.
